Metal braces are a standard version of orthodontic APPLIANCE. It consists of metal bands on molars and brackets – small metal pieces bonded on all the teeth. These elements are bonded permanently – i.e. for all the time of orthodontic treatment. In brackets there are some special slots in which an orthodontist inserts metal arch wires on which teeth are moved. On control visits doctors can check the treatment progress and replace arch wires which are ligated to brackets with elastic (colourful) or metal ligatures.
