Periodontal tissues surround the tooth and hold it in the bone. They include the gums, the alveolar bone of the maxilla and mandible, the root cementum and the ligaments that hold the tooth in the alveolus. As the disease progresses and the attachment of the tooth is destroyed, the tooth becomes loose and even falls out.

In our clinic we put great emphasis on proper periodontal health of all our patients - also those who come to us for other reasons. The plaque and calculus cleaning procedure is performed by specially trained hygienists, using ultrasonic devices, which guarantee painlessness of this procedure.

In all patients without periodontal problems, the cleaning should be performed once every six months, and in patients with periodontal disease even every 3 months. Such prophylaxis in highly developed countries has reduced the incidence of this tooth-threatening disease by over 40%.

Periodontal treatment

If the state of disease is so far advanced, we perform further steps to stabilize the teeth with special splints, or temporary crowns or bridges. Very often, however, in advanced cases the only pharmacological treatment and reinforcement of teeth with splints or crowns are insufficient. In such case we perform treatments of Guided Tissue Regeneration. These are highly specialized surgical procedures using materials that stimulate atrophied periodontal tissues to regeneration.

In this way we can significantly restore the function and aesthetics of gums and damaged teeth. To be successful, however, a very good cooperation between the patient and the doctor is necessary. Regular check-ups, very precise hygienic procedures and proper lifestyle will help to achieve success. Today's medicine already knows the possibilities of dealing with this problem.
